Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Penveil before you start writing.

What is Penveil?

Penveil is a guided book writing tool that runs entirely in your browser — no download or installation required. It helps you plan, write, and export your book with chapter-by-chapter structure, writing guidance, and professional manuscript exports.

Does Penveil require a download or installation?

No. Penveil is fully web-based and works in any modern browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, or Chromebook. There is nothing to install.

What formats can I export my book in?

Penveil exports your manuscript as a Word document (.docx), PDF, or eBook (.epub). Word exports are formatted to industry-standard manuscript style. Academic writing preserves citations and section structure; songwriting exports preserve line breaks and verse layout.

Is there a one-time purchase option?

Yes. Penveil offers a Lifetime plan for a single payment of $199. You get permanent access to all Pro features with no recurring subscription. Monthly and annual plans are also available — Basic at $5/month and Pro at $10/month (or $4/month and $8/month billed annually).

How does the free trial work?

Every new account starts with 14 days to explore Penveil, including a starter writing allowance. No credit card is required. Your book, blueprint, and chapters stay saved — you can upgrade anytime for a larger monthly writing allowance.

What writing features does Penveil include?

Penveil includes Co-Write (continue writing from where you left off), Fix Chapter (restructures pacing and flow), Line Edit (improves sentence rhythm and clarity), Tone Lock (keeps suggestions consistent with your voice), Consistency Check (catches character and timeline contradictions), Developmental Feedback (chapter-level editorial notes), Pacing Analysis, and Voice Mode (dictate and convert speech to prose). Basic includes Co-Write, Guided writing, and light and medium line edits; the full suite — including Voice Mode, Tone Lock, and the advanced editing tools — is available on the Pro and Lifetime plans.

What kinds of writing does Penveil support?

Penveil supports ten genres: novels, memoir, autobiography, self-help, business books, children's chapter books, picture books, academic writing (with citation support), songwriting (with verse and lyric structure), and screenwriting. Each genre has a tailored writing experience.

How is Penveil different from Scrivener?

Scrivener is a desktop application focused on document management. Penveil is a web-based tool focused on actually finishing your book — it runs in the browser, includes writing guidance built in, and exports publication-ready manuscripts without manual formatting. There is no learning curve for folder structures or compile settings.

How is Penveil different from Google Docs or Microsoft Word?

Google Docs and Word are general-purpose word processors. Penveil is built specifically for long-form book writing — it organizes your work by chapter, tracks your word count and daily writing streaks, understands your characters and locations, and offers tools designed specifically for narrative writing rather than general editing.

Is my writing private?

Yes. Your manuscripts are private by default and only visible to you. You can optionally share a read-only link to a specific book, but nothing is public unless you choose to share it.

Can I import an existing manuscript?

Yes. You can import a Word (.docx), PDF, or plain text file and Penveil will organize it into chapters automatically.

Does Penveil work offline?

Penveil requires an internet connection to use. If your connection drops while writing, your draft is automatically saved locally in your browser and synced back to the server as soon as you reconnect.
